8 days - Aug-Sep - From US $ 2,421

Day 1: Arrival in Iceland
You will be transferred from Keflavík Airport to a guesthouse in Reykjavík where you will attend a welcome meeting that will include traditional Icelandic soup. You will learn tour details and meet your fellow riders.

Day 2: Reykjavík – Saltvík Farm
After a morning flight to Akureyri, you will transfer to Saltvík Farm. On the way, a stop will be made at the majestic Goðafoss waterfall. At Saltvík, you will start your ride after a short introduction to the Icelandic horse and its special gait. You will cross the mountain plateau Hvammsheiði, heading toward the Reykjahverfi area and its white steaming hot springs. You can enjoy a relaxing bath in a warm outdoor tub before dinner and overnight stay at Saltvík Farm. (20 km/12.4 mi)

Day 3:
Geldingadalur - Theistareykir Mountain Cabin
Riding through Geldingadalur and over the Reykjaheiði plateau heath, your trail will lead to the geothermal area of Theistareykir. You will ride over the mid-Atlantic ridge--a fantastic area with deep earthquake fissures, multicolored mountains and geothermal energy. With all the volcanic activity going on, it will be easy to understand that Iceland is still under “natural construction”. (40 km/24.8 mi)

Day 4: Theistareykir - Hraunbrún Guesthouse
Today’s ride will take you from the Theistareykir area past the mountains Gæsafjöll and Hrafnabjörg. You will follow good riding tracks through the mountains, past lakes and through bushy vegetation. At Grímsstaðir Farm, you will leave the horses behind and take a nice hot bath in Jarðböð, an outdoor pool with geothermal water. You will then continue to Hraunbrún Guesthouse, where you will stay overnight. (40 km/24.8 mi)

Day 5:
Lake Mývatn - Saltvík Holiday Farm
The day will start with an exciting sightseeing tour around Lake Mývatn by bus. You will visit Dimmuborgir, fantastic black lava formations with rich vegetation, and the geothermal area of Hverarönd and its boiling mud pools and steam vents. You will then saddle-up again and head out of the Mývatn area. Riding through a black sand desert, you will enter the colorful Laxárdalur valley, home to the glittering salmon River Laxá. This will be a true day of contrasts in the ever changing Icelandic nature. Overnight will be spent at the Saltvík Farm for the next two nights. (30 km/18.6 mi)

Day 6:
Vatnshlíðarskógur - Saltvík Holiday Farm
You will enjoy excellent riding paths in the lovely birch wood area of Vatnshlíðarskógur, along with the great views that can be found on the shores of Lake Vestmannsvatn. You will ride to Hraunsréttir, crossing the Laxá River, a place used by farmers for their annual sheep round-up every autumn. At the end of the ride, you will head back to Saltvík Farm via Hvammsheiði heath, where a nearby swimming pool will offer you the chance to relax in warm water after this last day of riding. (40 km/24.8 mi)

Optional (please ask us for prices):
At Húsavík harbor a boat will be waiting to take you on a whale watching cruise. There is no better way to end this great tour than by sailing into the evening sun with, hopefully, whales swimming alongside.
