Itinerary

Wolsztyn Experience Steam Driving
7 days - Dec - From US $ 1,247

Sunday
Arrive Sunday afternoon, most likely by train from Berlin. There is an optional purchase for a transfer and be met by a Wolsztyn Experience representative at the station in or near Wolsztyn. Transfer to accommodations and attend a brief by Howard Jones, one of the founding directors of Wolsztyn Experience.

Monday
Howard Jones or one of his English-speaking associates of Wolsztyn Experience will brief regarding the schedule for the week, safety rules, what to do on the footplate, how to communicate with your Polish train crews, meals and other useful information. Later take the first driving and firing turns, according to the schedule.

Tuesday-Saturday
Each day typically take at least one driving turn in either freight or passenger service, until you have had at least 400 miles of driving and firing. Typical destinations are Leszno and Poznan. A complete turn is typically out and back, a round trip from Wolsztyn. See the map below for the routes around Wolsztyn. Two student drivers will be on each locomotive along with an experienced Polish engineer and fireman. Each student will drive in one direction and then trade off with his/her student on the run to serve as fireman in the other direction.

A "turn" usually takes about four hours and can be scheduled to start any time between about 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., depending on the needs of the railroad. The rest of the time is free to see the sites of Wolsztyn, go to nearby cities, explore the steam museum at Wolsztyn or just relax.

Sunday
Sunday is departure day, generally by train (fare not included) to Berlin, unless you have other arrangements.
